Ditch Your Wheels
Explore San Diego by road, rail, air and water.
Editors' Choice: Air adventures
There is something majestic about being lifted into the skies, whether it's aboard a hot-air balloon or a vintage World War II airplane. So swallow your fear of heights; San Diego has a number of companies that will take you up, up and away.
Editors' Choice: Batting Cages
Have a few hacks or work on your swing. Either way, the batting cages are good fun.
Editors' Choice: Beach Volleyball
Both South Mission Beach and Ocean Beach are hotspots for beach volleyball. O.B.'s got about a half-dozen courts, and South Mission has more than a dozen that are first come, first served. Courts are often booked up by local volleyball leagues, especially on the weekends and in the summer, but aspiring Gabrielle Reeces stand a decent chance of getting in on a pick-up game. Nets are usually already set up, so grab a few friends, a ball or two and get ready to spike your way to victory. North County volleyballers also flock to the north end of Black's, while those farther south head to the nets at Coronado Central Beach.
Editors' Choice: Beer Pong
Throw a ping pong ball into someone's beer, and instead of slugging you and making you buy another round, he might aw-shucks, and take a swig -- blissfully aware that he's part of that age-old drinking game that's swept frat houses and pollinated alcohol with lint pieces across the nation. (Except in Pennsylvania and Virginia, where beer pong tables have been banned.)

Beer pong tournaments can yield some big prizes. "Top players have been known to rake in tens of thousands of dollars a year from competitions," writes TIME magazine. "Who says America's college grads lack marketable skills?"

Here's where can you show enthusiasm for the game "supposedly even Socrates played" (according to TIME).
Editors' Choice: Big Kids Unite
You're a big kid living in a grown-up world. No problem. Channel your child-like energy every day of the week at one of these playful locales packed with good, clean fun. Tag, you're it!
Editors' Choice: CityWalks
Take a walking tour of San Diego's neighborhoods, from Point Loma to Presidio Park. See the monuments, bridges, pathways and views that make San Diego special.
Editors' Choice: Clear Sailing
Whether you want to learn the art of sailing or you prefer someone else to do the work for you, San Diego has a wide array of choices for experiencing the ocean via sail.
Editors' Choice: Dog-friendly beaches and parks
Stretches of sand and plots of grass around San Diego where Fido can run, jump, frolic and fetch without having to worry about the law.
Editors' Choice: Eats and Drinks Near the U.S. Open
You may be living and breathing golf during the tournament, but, unfortunately, you can't eat it. Here's a guide to eat and drinks nearby.
