Escape to Petco
Hotel stay enhances baseball adventure

Why not turn a Padres game at Petco Park into a holiday escape?
Downtown hotel operators are hoping that's exactly what lots of baseball fans are planning to do.
The place to stay is the new 511-unit Omni San Diego Hotel -- connected by a suspension sky bridge to the ballpark. Padres owner John Moores is one of the hotel owners and hangs out in his posh penthouse on the top two floors of the hotel tower.
Every room in the sleek nautically themed hotel has a view. (But don't expect to watch the game from your room.)
There's an 8,000-square-foot terrace on the rooftop of the sixth floor (with harbor and convention center views). That's where guests can take a dip in an outdoor pool or whirlpool spa, grab a burger at the Terrace Grill or sip a cocktail under the stars, warmed by a huge double-sided fireplace.
Use of the 2,200-square-foot fitness center is free, as is high-speed wireless Internet access. There's 24-hour room service.
Rates range from $169 to $2,500 for the presidential suite, but the hotel is offering several Padres Petco packages. (It's the only downtown hotel currently packaging game tickets with room stays.)
The $219 Bed 'n' Baseball package includes accommodations, two game tickets and overnight valet parking.
The Slide Home Family package includes a room with two beds ($269), four Padres tickets, overnight valet parking and a baseball movie to watch in the room.
The $269 Homerun Special includes accommodations, two game tickets, an in-room baseball movie, parking and breakfast for two at McCormick & Schmick's, the hotel's main restaurant.
The Omni is at 675 L St.; www.omnisandiegohotel.com or (619) 231-6664.
