Even though the Liars' Club packed up and hightailed it from Mission Beach to Alpine in the name of rent that doesn't break the bank, it still takes the term "local bar" quite seriously.
Let's start with the jukebox. Heralded as one of the best in San Diego County, local faves like Sin Sin 77, Deadbolt and The Scotch Greens are featured alongside selections ranging from Howlin' Wolf to the Pixies to Tom Waits.
Now to the beer. Of the 20 on tap, more than half of the handles are devoted to S.D. suds, including Alesmith, Stone, Port Brewing and On Tap. The menu says it best: "If it's not better or different than what we can get locally, we won't tap it." If this piques your interest, don't miss "local beer Sunday school," when pints of all S.D. beers go for $3 all day. Happy hour -- featuring $2 off drafts and $3 off appetizers -- is weekdays, 3-6 p.m.
The crowd, consisting of locals (surprise!), area musicians and beer aficionados, is also privy to a slew of televisions (NFL Sundays feature all the games plus a $5.95 buffet brunch) and some of the best food in the hills. The kitchen is open until 11 p.m. nightly, so don't miss out on a top-notch burger, seared ahi sandwich or fuego steak melt.
Great beers, a great jukebox, and great food. And that's the fact, Jack.
