La Jolla's esteemed Zenbu Sushi has already proven itself one of San Diego's hottest epicurean destinations. Now nightlife-seekers can get in on the action without even committing to dinner. Owners Matt and Jacqueline Rimel (also owners of Rimel's Rotisserie and Mesquite) have livened up La Jolla's lackluster after-hours scene with Koi Lounge, a chill new addition to the Zenbu restaurant. The cozy 800-square-foot lounge, which accommodates about 50 people, is dark and alluring: matte black walls, gilded mirrors, flickering candles and a koi fish mural created by local tattoo artist Chris Yvon. A DJ sets the mood with downtempo beats.

Patrons can order from the Koi-specific menu — daily sea-based delicacies including caviar, clams, oysters and ceviches — or can request items off the Zenbu menu. A full bar offers a wide selection of wines, sakes and champagnes, as well as premium signature cocktails.
