Another addition to the Stingaree family, Bar West has transformed a once-dilapidated stucco box into an opulent lounge, club and restaurant, without totally overdoing it. Sleek lacquered wood and canary yellow make the pleasing backdrop to just one of three bars inside. Elsewhere, orange, swirly wallpaper, paisley lamps, and a glass sculpture akin to jellyfish tentacles all come together without overwhelming the eye. The open space transitions fluidly from DJ circle and dance floor to bar area and booths, making it easy (depending on how many bodies turned out to see whoever's behind the turntables) to roam from one area to another without spilling too much of your drink.

The restaurant boasts chef Antonio Friscia, local or on-the-beach delivery and picnic takeout. A California palette paints the menu, from crab cake sliders and jumbo shrimp cocktails served with spicy Effen cocktail sauce to Ciro's pizza and "pimped out" nachos. Specialty drinks that are not to be missed include the ginger mojito, the jalapeƱo-spiked Sunburn Martini and the Pears Hilton (pear vodka, Apple Pucker, white cranberry juice).

Sure, this is another addition to upscale nightlife in Pacific Beach, but with happy hour every day and televised sports, Bar West could attract both those who live in (and love) P.B. and those squeamish about its notoriously college-level nightlife.

33333 not that impressed

Honestly, Bar West is just ok. The food was just alright-french fries sereved w.everything (which doesn't sound bad-but for those of us that try to eat healthy)The atmosphere was strange. It didn't feel like P.B. or downtown. I think I will stick with Tower 23 if I want a more upscale not so P.B. enviroment.

55555 hippest place in PB by far

Barwest is great from the food to the atmosphere. Its perfect if you live in PB and want a night on the town without the production of actually going downtown.
