Here's where to wet your whistle while you wait out the spin cycle.

Sooner or later some Einstein's bound to figure out what a lucrative business opportunity it would be to open a Laundromat that doubles as a bar. Until then, kick back at any of these watering holes that neighbor coin laundries while you wait for your skivvies to dry. If they're not right next door to each other, they're close enough.

Kadan
When it comes to passing the time, Kadan is more than just a bar. It's a chess club. And a library. And a medieval weaponry museum. And a holding tank for really random grizzled folk who make up the day crowd.

Follow the beef fumes from the yellow-walled Coin Laundry to the Turf, across the street and half a block away.

This dart bar at the other end of Garnet is tucked safely out of frat boy territory, conveniently alongside a Laundromat. Only a faded hair and nail salon separates the two.

Thrusters Lounge
Same deal as the Tilted Stick, but sadly the Laundromat next door is temporarily closed and currently for sale. Thrusters: do the smart thing. Buy the place, knock down the adjoining wall, and be done with it.

Cricket's Pub
The dart bar neighbors what is perhaps San Diego's largest Laundromat, Centre Laundry, whose size rivals that of most midsize grocery stores.

North Park's diviest dive throws open its doors at 9 a.m., but the spin cycle kicks in at Coin-Op Wash Laundry, down a block on the opposite side of University, as early as 6.

Fifty-seven beers on the menu and a small army of TVs keep you company while you keep an eye on your clothes at the mat across the street.

The Whistle Stop
Save your dirties for Tuesday evenings. That's when the Whistle Stop sets up the Super Nintendo on the big screen and scatters board games around the bar. The mat neighbors the 7-Eleven just a block down 30th.

Bluefoot Bar & Lounge
Blue and red work in so many situations. Knowing which knob is for hot water and which is for cold. Or in which states it's safe for gay people to hold hands in public. ICEE obviously loves the combination, too. So it's safe to say Bluefoot Lounge and Redwood Laundry, a tad north on 30th, were just meant to go together.
