Can photography help bring about social change? Photographer and educator Gina Grillo certainly believes so, having spent years helping young people document their own diverse communities. Making diversity visible helps promote cultural understanding, the Chicago-based Grillo says on her Web site. Her personal photographic work has been a documentary exploration of immigrant life in the United States, entitled "Between Cultures: Children of Immigrants in America." It's an exhibit that captures the idealism and harsh realities of being new to America, through the eyes of children.
