Chris Robinson's solo debut disc "New Earth Mud" holds the potential for an innovative beginning for the 36-year-old singer. Robinson started the Atlanta-based Black Crowes with his brother Rich in 1984. After 10 successful albums and nearly two decades, the band's rocky relationship was put on hiatus in 2002.
This year finds Robinson touring incessantly behind "New Earth Mud," along with the promise of a new baby with famous wife Kate Hudson. Finding more tender territory like the folky "Katie Dear" and the crunchy funk assault of "Ride," Robinson doesnt shy away from experimentation. In fact, his voice sounds more expressive than during his Black Crowes years. Despite losing his longtime band, Robinson seems to thrive in his fresh, new environs.
