The Skinny

Turntablist Kid Koala, known for his work with underground hip-hop's Deltron 3030 and the hip-pop supergroup Gorillaz, leads this Montreal-based sextet. Unlike the rat-a-tat, speed demon mentality of many turntable projects, Bullfrog's sound focuses on the collective groove. Much like Rope-A-Dope Records labelmate DJ Logic, Koala treats his turntables like an expressive instrument, rather than falling into the turntable-tightrope trap.

Bullfrog's music wallows in Sly Stone-inspired funk, loaded with old-school hip-hop sensibilities. MC blurum 13 keeps the live shows all the way live with his freestyling tendencies, while Mark Robertson and Joana Peters layer their soulful harmonies on top of it all.
